Do you hear phrases like: "That may be truth for you, but it's not for me?" Or your own children may respond with, "You can't force your beliefs on me, I need to choose my own." These are worldviews that saturate our culture. Do you know your worldview? You might even wonder what a worldview is. I'm glad you asked! The American Heritage Dictionary states worldview as: " A collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or a group. " The overall perspective from which one sees and interprets the world." Whether you can define it or not, your family has a worldview. The behaviors, choices, and actions of each individual come from worldview.
Some of the worldviews of our time are relativism, humanism, existentialism and post-modernism. There are many others but these most directly affect family and church. Can you define them? Of course, the worldview Christians want to hold is a biblical worldview. I encourage you to spend a moment with the brief power point presentation on my web site for a description of each worldview.
It is a fact that we live in a culture of various worldviews. However, the biblical worldview is not one that can be shared. They conflict with absolute truth, standards, and purpose for life. My challenge for Christian families is to make sure your home is not allowing other worldviews to decide your behaviors and choices.
